Do you think it hurts Leonard that he's not "Scottish"? Specifically in the sense that he doesn't speak with a Scottish accent? I have no idea how common that is in Scottish politics so I'm just curious if it's a factor that's going against him.
To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them.

This should be done to every establishment journalist until the end of time:

To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them.

I doubt it. The SNP have had plenty of senior members with English backgrounds and it has never done them any harm.

Turns out Ken Loach isn't actually a Holocaust denier. This comes as a shock to me. https://twitter.com/KenLoachSixteen/...83580566855682

So far, six CLPs have nominated Richard Leonard and four CLPs have nominated Anas Sarwar. https://twitter.com/CLPNominations/s...03012672425984

    Less encouraging:

Our voteshare estimate for CLP nominations so far are:

    Leonard: 49.4%
    Sarwar: 50.6%.

Because Sarwar won by a big margin in Southside with a lot of votes.

    In Scotland:

May goes from a net approval rating (well/badly at job) of +13 to -49; Corbyn from -42 to +20. Notable turnaround.

This is mad. Corbyn’s net approval in Scotland has risen by 62% from -42 to +20 in just over a year. May’s has dropped by 62% (@YouGov).

It isn't really a surprise. When May became leader the press were treating her as the second coming while Corbyn was being written off entirely, not to mention facing a leadership challenge.

With the election the broadcast media had to actually report and the print media couldn't hide as much so May was exposed for what she was and Corbyn was demonstrated in a much better light.

The impact on voting might not be as strong though. People who still voted Labour in Scotland tended not to like Corbyn but they are definitely changing their minds while a lot of people favourable to him will still vote SNP.

for instance I think Corbyn is doing a better job than Sturgeon right now on the whole but will still vote SNP/Green for the time being.

In your estimation, is the group favorable to him yet still going to vote SNP going to do so primarily due to their support for independence, because of SLAB's Blairite leadership (which hopefully will change somewhat soon), or something else?

Mostly the former but also Scottish Labour's less than appealing cast of characters I suspect. If you thought the Blairite elites in England are bad you should see their counterparts in Scotland. It is not even entirely the politics, it is the corruption and entitlement that turns so many people off. Not to mention it must be said frequent stupidity. Even if Leonard wins and does everything he should do, he is going to have a mighty hard time explaining how he will appoint competent Ministers should he become First Minister.

I have seen the utter fringes of centrist politics obsess over this stuff (as CJ and Demo may remember): https://www.politicshome.com/news/uk...2%80%93-ex-mi5

Now the Tories are actively pushing it, too.
